SOCIAL MEDIA DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TOXIC, IT'S JUST ALWAYS BEEN DESIGNED THAT WAY.
We are the first social app aimed to empower casual creation, limit comparison and protect its users wellbeing and data. We are redefining social media for the next generation by focusing on why it was created in the first place: to inspire, to connect, to share and to uplift.
By throwing out the social scale (no more follower/like counts), eliminating publicly displayed profiles, and giving users control over their feed, Herd is rethinking the feedback loop between content creators and consumers.
Designed by women, we are taking a women-centric approach to design, as women are disproportionately impacted by comparison and abuse on current platforms.
Herd is composed of four main features: Home, Feed, Favorites and Profile. Each aspect of the app has taken what users love about other platforms, and re-designed each aspect with the user's well-being in mind. One example of this is Feed Autonomy, where user's can adjust their feed at any time.
Mady Dewey and Ali Howard, co-Founders, graduated from college together in 2018. A year later, they both moved to Seattle for their careers in technology and marketing.
After a year of shared frustration with comparison, unrealistic beauty standards, influencer culture and toxicity online Mady and Ali began dreaming of the solution. That's when Herd was born.
Mady and Ali believe that technology can be used for good. Over the last 10 years, research has proven time and time again that social media is causing harm to the mental health of millions. Every aspect of Herd has been intentionally designed to encourage, uplift, celebrate and empower strangers and friends alike.
Our team feels immense responsibility to create an inclusive and intentional product for generations to come.
This is just the beginning.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

While we are taking a women centric approach in the design of Herd, we recognize the need for a safe space online for all people. Therefore, all gender identities are welcome to join the Herd.
WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO LAUNCH?
The Herd will begin beta testing in April of 2021. Until then, follow along our creation journey on Instagram and TikTok (@HERD.APP)
IT ALL SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHAT DOES THIS APP ACTUALLY DO?
The Herd is a social media platform that aims to empower users through it's homepage, content feed, favorites and personal media board.
WHAT IS THE REASON BEHIND THE NAME?
We have often flocked to sub-communities within current social media platforms (such as following positive influencers, joining female focused Facebook groups or participating in reddit threads).
Herds aim to protect its members from the outside world. Each member of the Herd is celebrated for their uniqueness and uplifted by the community within the Herd. As one Herd, we are moving to a greener social media pasture, where women (and allies) can join forces
There is power when we come together for a common good and there is strength when women's voices are finally heard.
